The Race, The Choice, The Headache

The great thing about a democracy is that you get a choice…

The Democrats view the public as a teeming outpatient clinic that needs help. The depressed masses cling to their religion and guns and so need a Democratic Dr. Phil to heal us. The Democrats believe we all need to cultivate our grievances which the government will alleviate. We are victims and need counseling and then we will be united. Community means you say what everyone else does without deviation or nuance and if you don't you are a traitor. Just scream “Me-Too!”. Or Else! To Democrats, status means accumulating careerist brownie points — it is your resume. There will be no war in the Democrat's empyrean because we can always talk to folks in other climes (there are no countries really, only folk) and work things out by understanding and accommodating the needs of others. That is the job of America internationally, to understand and schmooze and if necessary, file a lawsuit.

The Republicans see the public as a group in need of channeling their inner-capitalists; this public is ready and able to get their share of the pie, as this desire is imprinted in all DNA — if only the interfering nanny-government will get off their backs. Money and power are the only worthy goals and if only Uncle Sam will unshackle us we will be rich and that means happy honey-bun. (But patriotism is to be affirmed, so Uncle Sam isn't all that evil.) Status means accumulation — it means wealth. Equality means what you were born with is all you get from society; we should live and let live, unless aggregating personal info might lead to profit. Our society is only there to provide police and armies to protect the public from the unwashed hordes. Community means you hang out only with those in your own social/status class.

So you can join a grievance committee and stew in your own juices, or you can be cut loose to go get what you can in the jungle and good luck bunky.

Nothing like a choice.
