Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine is one of those small movies that doesn't try to be more than it is and ends up being more than it should be. It is just a very, well, sunny movie. On the DVD commentary the writer said that he wanted to do a movie about people whose aspirations are way beyond their capabilities. The movie rises above this downer of a premise — the movie itself is a set piece, of the road picture/dysfunctional crew genre — but the story is really about the bonds of family that can keep things percolating along when all else fails.
