Super Bowl

They left out the super in the Super Bowl. Again. These contests seldom in actuality approach the hype. The vaunted Bears' defense, the laser throws of Peyton Manning — just didn't show up in this quadrant of the universe. More dropped passes and fumbles than I can remember in a post-season game. Even the ads were less than stellar (most people seem to have liked the Bud ads). I was glad to see Tony Dungy get some applause — he's always appeared to have something to him, as opposed to many of the in-your-face Archie comics jock coaches.

CBS was lucky the Bears started out with an exciting run-back for a touchdown; it left you feeling this was going to be a genuine match-up of dee-fense and explosive offense. But the Bears defense wore out as they seemed the sole representative of their team most of the time, finally leaking and sinking in the rain. Grossman will be blamed but it was a team loss. No Steel Curtain this group. If not for that first score by the Bears you probably would have given up on the game one-third through. As is probably obvious, I was pulling for the underdog Bears.
