He told me that he arrived on shore to a magnificent city teeming with a populace rich in those human qualities that had long ago disappeared: interest and focus, character and constancy, love and peace of mind.

He was given plain garments that somehow had about their cut and color an individuality: different clasps, slightly modified weaves to the fine linen fabrics. They were like nothing I had seen before.

He said the inhabitants were allowed to express their difference,but only with subtlety or not at all. This developed in the populace a high degree of refinement...
