He took me underground and we sat in large chairs, too big for
a single person, but too small for more than one. They were deep
blue and shiny and it seemed to me they would take a great effort
to be moved at all, even a few inches. He fell asleep and I was
left to wander. I had the impulse to look through things, to see
what this Dreamer was to the real inhabitants of this remnant
of a town. I succumbed, taking a few brief glimpses through papers
and drawers, in large cabinets and high closets. I cannot even
recall now the conclusions I reached. They explained nothing really. |
